Hall of fame: John Hunt
Category: Volunteer
Inducted: 2 April 2023
Corroboree would not be the club it is today had it not been for John Hunt‘s efforts over many years including 11 years as President and a continual relationship with the club to ensure our athletes are becoming the best they can be.
The club has always wondered how we thank a man who has done so much for the club over such an extended period with something more than Life membership and the introduction of new categories for our Hall of Fame has given us the opportunity to thank John in a grander way.
Johns name was first mentioned in the archives in 1989-90 season as Secretary. He became President the following season and was President for 9 of the next 10 seasons and came back for one more year in 2007-08 to make it a total of 11 years as President.
He filled roles on the Committee, On Track coordinator and head coach. He held an Australian Masters record in High Jump, served on the board of Athletics ACT in in its formative years in the early 80’s and right up until his passing in 2023, he still came along to coach on Mon-Wed and runs High Jump on the weekends.
Inducting John into our Hall of Fame causes an issue in that no-one else will be able to live up to his achievements and it may be tough to induct anyone else but having said that, we were honoured to welcome John as The Corroboree Hall of Fame’s first inductee into the Volunteer category.
