Hall of fame: Anna Flanagan
Category: Sportsperson
Inducted: 2 April 2023
In recognition of Anna Flanagan‘s amazing achievements on the sporting field in representing Australia in hockey at two Commonwealth Games, the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2014 World Cup. We’d like to think Corroboree played a small part in her success and we are proud to say she was one of our athletes.
Anna was a Corroboree athlete starting in U9 back in 2000-01. Over the course of the next six years she broke records every season across a number of varied events including shot put, hurdles, the walk, high jump and discus. Some of these records still stand today.
Over the course of her Little Athletics stint she:
- Represented ACT
- U10, U11 PSSA
- U13, U14 Nationals
- U14 Pacific School Games
- Held ACT records in: Discus, Shot Put, Hurdles, High Jump
Unfortunately for athletics, Anna was also very good at hockey and there came a point where she had to make a choice and hockey won the day.
Her hockey achievements included:
- U21s Australian team at 15
- Hockeyroos (National Women’s team) at just 17
- Player of Tournament Nationals: U18, U21, Aus Hockey League 2012
- 2 x Commonwealth Games Gold Medals (2010, 2014)
- London Olympics in 2012 (5th)
- World Junior Player of the Year 2013
- World Cup Silver 2014
- World Cup Aus player of the tournament 2014
We’re proud that Anna was a Corroboree kid and we’re even prouder that we’re able to induct her into the Corroboree Hall of Fame.
