Life Member: Andy Martin
Inducted: 2026
Andy has been part of Corroboree since 2019, when Henry first joined in the Under 11s. Since then, Andy, Ivana and Henry have quietly become one of those families you can always rely on to make the club work.
Andy moved onto the Corroboree Committee for the 2021-22 season, taking on the role of managing throws on a Saturday morning. Since then, his presence on the throwing circles has upped the level of technical know-how paying dividends for many kids. His work to keep seven throwing circles going when there are such large age groups or when Dickson turns into a paddy field is incredible.
Channelling his love for throws he decided to get involved more formally in the coaching side of things and took his Australian Athletics Level 1 Community Coach badge. Since the 2022-23 season Andy has pretty much been ever present at the club’s training on Monday and Wednesday evenings, running a range of technical and purely ‘for fun’ sessions. His continued commitment and increasing value to Corroboree is seen by his upgrading to an AA Level 2 Development Coach in 2026.
Andy is one of those people who helps make Saturday mornings happen. As equipment manager, he’s among the first to arrive, setting up all the equipment at the pits and circles, before most of us have even had our first coffee. He’s also there on a Friday afternoon, marking the javelin/turbo javelin throwing areas and making sure the track markings are good, so the meet can run smoothly the next morning. He has also been responsible for a number of years of organising all the trophies that have been handed out today.
Andy has also been a regular in helping officiate at Capital Athletics meets and, in particular, as Shot Put chief at what is now the CA Junior Championships. He is also always available for the Capital Athletics Relay Carnival and U6-8 Team Challenge, turning his hand to do whatever job is required to make the meets run smoothly.
Andy’s contributions have been part of the Martin family’s support in ensuring Corroboree runs in both an efficient and friendly manner. Ivana has played a big role in keeping things ticking along, spending many Saturday mornings as AGC and afternoons entering results. Henry has grown up through the club and is just a great role model for younger athletes, serving as club captain and vice-captain, and lending Dad a hand wherever it’s needed, whether at training or running the U6-8 Teams Challenge.
So, in recognition of his many and varied contributions, we are pleased to award Andy Martin Life Membership of Corroboree Athletics.
