Corroboree Little Atheletics

Carnivals

Little Athletics ACT offer carnivals during the season where our athletes get the chance to compete against the other ACT clubs in well organised events on quality tracks and surfaces. The kids have a great day out and I firmly encourage children of all abilities to get involved and represent our great club at these events. Information about these events will be presented at Corroboree meets closer to each event.

Relay Carnival

The Relay Carnival is an event for U6-U17 where each age group gets to compete in three events.

U6-8

  • 4 x 100 metre shuttle relay
  • Slalom relay (4 per team) – Inner field

U9-12

  • 4 x 70 metre shuttle relay
  • 4 x 100 metre circular relay
  • 4 x 200 metre circular relay

U13-17

  • 4 x 200 metre circular relay
  • 1000 metre Swedish medley circular relay (1 x 100m, 1 x 300m, 1 x 200m, 1 x 400m)

Open

The results of the relays count count towards the overall point-score.  The beauty of this event is that athletes get to compete as part of a team.

U6 – U8 Teams Challenge

The U6-U8 Teams Challenge is a fun event where our youngest little athletes get the opportunity to participate in team events against little athletes from other Little Athletics Centres. Activities are based on game like activities that teach fundamental movements and motor skills. These activities involve competition but are done with modified rules and specifications to emphasis the focus on fun and participation rather than individual performance.
This event is based on the developmental age appropriate guidelines as set out by both Little Athletics Australia and Athletics Australia. From these guidelines as detailed in Appendix 2.0. These guidelines recognise that children are not small-scale adults, and that the performance of a child is not a clear indicator of future adult performance. These guidelines also note that negative repercussions have been identified for children when exposed to competition environments where the focus is on performance rather than fun and development.

ACT Combined Events Championship

This event is an Athletics ACT State Championship being delivered by Athletics ACT for athletes born in U12-U17. Athletes will participate in this event being run with World Athletics Rules for the purposes of a State Championship and qualifying pathway to the Australian Combined Championships. An U15 event (Little Athletics Age Groups) will be run under Little Athletics rules for the purpose of being the selection trial for ALAC.

ACT Little Athletics Championships U9-U13

This is usually the last event of the ACT Little Athletics Association (ACTLAA) calendar.
These championships are run over a full weekend for U9s – U13s where Corroboree athletes compete against the best from other centres.

This event, delivered by Little Athletics ACT, focuses on the opportunity to participate in Little Athletics events under Little Athletics Australia rules and specifications against athletes from other Little Athletics centres.

The age range for this event has been chosen in line with the ‘age appropriate activities and competitions’ guidelines as set out by Little Athletics Australia and Athletics Australia with the U13 events to be used as the selection trials for ALAC.
This event will also act as the State Championship for Little Athletics ACT for all hurdle events for athletes born in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, being run to Little Athletics Australia specifications rather than the Athletics Australia specifications that will be run at the U14-U18 ACT Championships.

ACT Little Athletics Championships U14+

This event is a combined Little Athletics ACT and Athletics ACT State Championship being delivered by one athletics ACT for athletes in the U14-U17 age group.

This event will be combined to ensure that athletes born in these years only need to compete in one State Championship event (except for 2008 and 2009 birth years owing to U13 Little Athletics ALAC selection requirements), to ensure a streamlined approach to athlete management and welfare, and to provide a more consistent and sustainable approach to the one athletics ACT competition pathway.

Theses championships are run over Friday evening, and all weekend for U14s – U17s where Corroboree athletes compete against the best from other centres.
